Gynostemma pentaphyllum. (Thunb.) Makino. (Jiaogulan) has long been used as folk medicine and tea in Asia. G. pentaphyllum is a perennial creeping herb. Gynostemma pentaphyllum (Thunb.) Makino, a peren- nial creeping herb belonging to the Cucurbitaceae, is distributed widely in mainland China, particularly Jiaogulan (Gynostemma pentaphyllum; GP) contained a saponin glycoside which was related to ginseng saponin.
